Several fires were reported today in rural areas in the south of Albania after a sudden increase in temperatures.
A fire broke out in the village of Penkovë in Selenica in the southwest, while firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.
Journalist Mikel Marsi reports that the fire has been active for several hours and has burned areas with pastures and vegetation.
Aided by the strong wind that has swept Vlora for two days but also the high temperatures and the sky covered by a layer of grey matter, the firefighters are trying to isolate and then extinguish the flames in this area with pastures and trees.
A fire has also engulfed a large area of land in the village of Shtiqas in Maliq, in the southeast of the country.
Employees of the fire department, forest protection service and residents have arrived in the area and are working with circumstantial means to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately, so far, no homes have been reported to be at risk of fire.
