Not finding beer at home was enough of a reason for Edmond L, from Kamza, to beat his wife and threaten her life with a knife.
The woman has reported the attack and the Criminal Court sentenced him to nine months in prison. But because he admitted the crime and showed remorse, the sentence goes to six months in prison.
“The defendant started debating with his wife for the absence of beer in their home, and this was the motive that drove him to domestic violence”, declared Judge Artan Gjermeni.
Edmond was married 20 years ago to his wife and they have three children. After experiencing violence frequently, his wife finally gave up and submitted a report at the police, which brought her husband’s immediate arrest.
The Criminal Court says they hear several absurd motives for domestic violence on women, starting from extravagant clothe style, cooking, smoking and turning home late. The most classic case is the alcoholic usage of men. 115 people are waiting trial in the Court of Tirana for domestic violence.
