The coast, the nature in general, and the local cultural tradition keeps
attracting the attention of foreign media and operators, who suggest
Albania as a tourist destination.
TGCOM, from the Italian Mediaset, considers our country as a land of various beauties, a rich archeology, huge concentration of maritime localities, clean rivers and untouched nature in the mountains.
The British “Express” focuses on the mountains and says that Albania offers very low prices.
“NYTimes” lists Albania fourth in a list of 52 countries to be visited in 2014, but how ready are we to offer tourism to foreigners?
“I think that we are ready and prepared for this season. We have established a task force in which are involved special institutions that are coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism. Together with the Ministry of Interior, there will be a mobilization for the safety on terrain, while the Ministry of Defense has engaged the Armed Forces for cleaning the tourist areas”, declared the Minister of Tourism, Eglantina Gjermeni.
“We have done something, not what we would want, but something that has not been done in 20 years. Cleaning, returning the standards, the criteria and safety on beaches. Very soon we will start with voluntary camps that will deal with the cleaning and discipline of Albanian beaches, so that tourists can feel that the government is present”, declared Auron Tare, Director of the National Coast Agency.
“The Health Minister has worked with the disinfecting of coastal areas, offering health care, and taking measures for their structures to be more active during the season”, Gjermeni added.
Other ministries that are part of the cooperation are the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Environment, the Foreign Ministry and the National Agency of Food and Tourism.
“We are looking for the cooperation of private enterprises, to a quality of standards, because we want to win the trust that the foreign media have given us, and also to create more revenues for the economy”, Gjermeni declared.
The US Huffington Post says that another reason to visit Albania is the cultural heritage, listing Porto Palermo on top of it.
“We have taken all measures for cleaning the archeological sites for local and foreign tourists. For museums, monuments, etc, the Ministry of Tourism is creating road signs to show their locations, and guides will also explain the history of our country in a more correct way”, explained Zef Cuni, Deputy Minister of Culture.
Teams from the Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism will be on terrain for inspections. “Our efforts and commitment are huge, but the development of tourism needs coordination between the local government, the private operators and citizens”, Gjermeni declared.
