The British Parliament Member. Mark Pritchard, is well known in the
Albanian political circles, since he was the chairman of the
parliamentary group Great Britain-Albania.
The discussion with the Daily Telegraph journalists, in which he speaks about his connection with the Tirana politician, was held in one of London’s emblematic hotels, the Savoy Hotel.
Telegraph describes the conversation with him as an open tendency to favor the business interests more than the political interests of the conservative party of David Cameron.
The entire conversation has been filmed by a hidden camera, through which Pritchard gives this detail:
““The person that decides on hotels in Tirana is the mayor … he’s completely straight. And I know, because I know people left and right, I know the prime minister, I know the former prime minister … I know everybody.”
To prove that what he was saying was true, according to the Telegraph, Pritchard has sent a SMS to Lulzim Basha with the message “Are looking into hotel investments for 2014”?
Daily Telegraph explains that the investigation lasted for five minutes, and the conversation in which the Mayor of Tirana is mentioned has been registered on September 2013.
Pritchard has also offered the possibility of organizing a trip to Albania, saying that he had regular contacts with the Albanian government.
“We will meet the Prime Minister and everyone else. I will only say that you are looking to invest somewhere”, Pritchard declared.
Lord Oakeshott, from the Liberal Democratic Party, commenting this investigation of Daily Telegraph, says: “Holding your hand out for large commissions for an introduction to the prime minister may be normal in Albania, but it’s far below the standards of behaviour our Parliament expects.”
