A 35-year-old mother and her unborn baby died today during labor.
Parents blame hospitals for sending her from the maternity to the
cardiology hospitals, then to the sanatorium and then back to the
maternity again, with lots of delays, lacking equipments and absent
personnel in the process. But what really went wrong?
The “Koco Gliozheni” Maternity doctors could not determine the diagnosis of the woman in the beginning. They kept the patient for 45 minutes only and sent her to the Cardiology of the Tirana University Hospital Center.
From there, the woman was sent to the Sanatorium, where doctors verified a severe hemorrhage at the spleen, and sent her back to the maternity.
At this point, the maternity doctors called an extended consultation for the severe spleen condition, with only 75% chances of fatality.
Two expert obstetricians asked by Top Channel, said the maternity doctors should have not sent her to the cardiology in the first place, but call the heart doctor to the maternity instead.
When doctors gathered for the extended consultation, it was too late. Only the coroner will now be able to give an answer for the real causes of death.
