The Western Balkan countries will meet in a summit this July 12th in
Trieste, Italy, with the motto: “Strengthening regional cooperation for a
quicker path towards the EU”.

The fourth meeting of the “Berlin Process”will focus on the joint projects that were started in 2014.

Present in this meeting will be the EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini; German Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn; the European Commissioner for Transportation, Violeta Bulc.

“Our strategy has the final purpose to have these six countries as EU members”, Hahn said in Brussels, where the meeting agenda is still under preparation.

“The agenda will be presented to the leaders of six Western Balkan countries and partners such as Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Slovenia and Italy”, says Deutsche Welle.

The matters in discussion will be three: “Continuing regional cooperation in transportation and energy infrastructure; continuing the regional cooperation in the region and strengthening contacts between youth and civil society.”

Sources close to the European Commission specify that Brussels will bring new offers in Trieste regarding infrastructure projects in the region. There will also be an agreement for creating a transportation union which aims to create further integration of transportation networks throughout Balkan.
