The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that the budget will
recover Albania’s economy, and that the negotiations with the
International Monetary Fund enabled the planning of a favorable budget.
“99 days after reviewing the books of the state finances, and those who on behalf of the power have damaged the common citizens and businesses, we have ended the blind walk towards the economic and financial ruin, and we have dismantled the time bombs that would explode one after another, blowing up the bridges of our future. Same as in the sad years of the pyramids and Ponzi schemes, this time we have a pyramid of debts which we will bring down thanks to a radical change, which starts with the government’s approach to debts, taxes and administration of national assets. We have build a flexible program for the economic growth that will give us the first clear signs of coming out of this financial asphyxiation”, Rama declared.
We have inherited a high public debt which we are legalizing now. By focusing on the funds that are foreseen for the health system, the Prime Minister declared that the government will increase revenues to invest in the health system, starting it with the price of medicaments.
“We have been told, and they are telling to the Albanians too, that our goal is to not increase wages in the next years, and that we will even reduce pensions. Not only we haven’t accepted any condition similar to this, but we have received the agreement that we wanted by not lowering any salary, by reducing spending for taxes and by increasing the quantity of the real money on the citizens’ pockets, which goes for consumption. We have decided the unnegotiable condition of increasing debts during 2014, and we will increase pensions too”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister warned that the government will increase the excise of tobacco, helping this way the fight against smoking. Rama considered the draft-budget the beginning of a radical transformation in the education area too.
