The Kosovo Police arrested the Imam of the Big Mosque in Prishtina,
Shefqet Krasiqi; the Imam of the Mitrovica Mosque, Enis Rama; the Imam
from Peja, Enes Goga; the politician and one of the Islamic Movement
leaders in Kosovo, Fuad Ramiqi, and 11 other imams and activists.
These high-rank clergymen are accused of encouraging young members to become part of terrorist organizations such as Al=Nusra and ISIS in Syria and Iraq, where several of them have been confirmed dead. Three of the arrested, Shefqet Krasniqi, Enes Goga and Enis Rama were part of the recent report about the religious freedom in Kosovo, made by the US State Department.
These imams were accused of encouraging religious hate and holding radical speeches.
Other arrested activists and imams are the Mitrovica Imam, Ekrem Avdiu; Eroll Nesimi and the administrator of a religious website, Idriz Bilibani; eonard Ruli, Imam of a community and administrator of a religious website. He calls himself Ebu Beker Ruli; Dardan Gjuka, Other arrested are Shefki Koraci from Kacanik and Mazllam Mazllami from Prizren, both imams.
The police has also arrested Bedri Robaj, who has turned a building into a mosque, and that acts outside the jurisdiction of the Islamic Community of Kosovo. Police declared that they have seized evidence that tie these persons to these crimes.
The Islamic Community in Kosovo expressed their concern for the arrests, but they add that no one is above the law.
“The operation of this Wednesday was made by order of the Special Prosecution of Kosovo for the involvements of the fighting in Syria. The Kosovo police appeal citizens to not fall prey of ideological indoctrination and call the police for any similar case.
