The Socialist Party said they agree with the initiative of the Democratic Party to hold a referendum for the waste import in Albania, but they want consults with Parliamentary commissions. For the opposition MPs, this is an effort to block the process.
“Should we allow waste import in Albanian territory? Yes? No?”, the opposition wants the answer of this question by the Albanian people, through a referendum.
Six months after the Democrats filed the request in Parliament, the Commission of Laws started to review it.
“We are facing a great risk. The majority could cancel the referendum about the waste import against the public’s will”, said Oerd Bylykbashi.
Socialist Bledi Cuci said that the initiative of the Democratic Party is based on the Constitution, but he said there should be a consultation with the Productive Activity Commission.
“Is this matter important enough for a referendum? Is there a case about this? We need an answer from the respective commission”, Cuci said.
