The Civil Society sent an official request to the Tirana Municipality
for the suspension of the decision that has seized the motor vehicles of
the Roma people in Tirana who collect recycling wastes.
“We asked Basha to repeal the order for stopping the motorized and non-motorized vehicles that were seized three weeks ago from the Roma community, who have been living in the last 20 years by collecting recyclable materials. Strangely, the organizations that have an agreement with the Municipality and who have been allowed in the past to collect the recycling materials as the law requires, have had their activity suspended”, declared Adriatic Hasantari from “Roma Active”.
The Municipality’s decision has left 800 families without any revenue. the civil society asked the respecting of the agreement that the Municipality has made with the Roma, who are allowed to continue with this work and to be included in the social assistance scheme.
“800 families that have been affected by this order need their economical assistance conditions improved, because most of them are not paid. We also demand the guaranteeing of employment for Roma people who have been affected by this government order in spaces that the Municipality owns according to the law”, Hasantari declared.
