The scandal that was discovered by the Supreme State Audit with the
computers of public schools in Albania was warned by the end of January
2009.
The Italian customs authorities had blocked a Panama flagged ship that was transporting computer equipments for the public schools of Albania.
According to the Italian authorities, the 3.8 million USD equipments were falsified. The destination of the ship was the Vlore port. The ship contained 7000 computers that the government would distribute in the public schools throughout Albania.
The entire Ministry of Education tender was won by a Serbian company that undertook to bring the computers for the Albanian schools.
But according to the Italian customs, all equipments were falsified. The Italian authorities explained that the computers and the accessories were pirated and made in China.
The Serbian company that had won the tender in Albania did not confirm or deny the fact, while the Minister of Education, Fatos Beja, declared that the project would continue normally and that it was not related with the operation.
According to Beja, some of the computers that are part of this contingent have arrived in Albania, while the rest is coming.
