Russia’s involvement in the recent Kosovo-Serbia conflict could complicate the efforts of the EU to resolve the situation peacefully, writes Associated Press in Belgrade, quoted by Kosovo media.
“Both Belgrade and Prishtina must normalize their relations to become EU members”, says the prestigious agency, which analyzes the news why Vucic consulted Putin about the situation in Kosovo.
“Although Serbia is officially working for EU accession, they have had very close military ties with Russia”, AP notes. “Vucic asked Putin advice about how to respond to the ‘aggression of Kosovo against Serbs’”.
A press release from the Serbian Presidential Office stated that he updated the Russian President about what he considered a “brutal attack” of the Kosovo Police against a Serbian official, referring to the arrest and expelling of Marko Gjuric this Monday, after he entered the country without permission from the authorities.
Vucic stated that he asked Putin for advice, claiming that “it is clear that Kosovo Albanians enjoy wide support from a number of Western countries for the unilateral declaration of independence”,
