Disabled people are expected to have facilities during the voting
process. Around 10.000 blind people will be able to vote even without
the help of someone else, because every voting center will have ballots
with the brail system.
“Disabled people have to pass a series of problems before reaching the voting center and to communicate with the ballot paper. This problem is even bigger for the blind people”, declared Sinan Tafaj, President of the Disabled People Council.
The Ombudsman declared that despite what has been done so far, the disabled people need more conditions to vote.
“It is unacceptable that disabled people are deprived of the basic right to vote, despite their disabilities. We cannot accept this situation”, Totozani declared.
The Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lefteri Lleshi, notified the local units to build the necessary infrastructure for these people.
“The other disabled people have all the necessary infrastructure. What we are asking the local units is to have these voting centers always on the first floor of buildings. We cannot resolve your problems, but we can make them easier, altogether”, Lleshi declared.
Thanks to a project of the OSCE and the German Embassy, the disabled people are being trained for the way how they will vote on the June 23rd elections.
