The Volunteer Corpus continued the campaign for cleaning the tourist
areas. 150 members, in cooperation with the Center Commune in Vlore,
cleaned the Zvernec beach before the tourist season.

The Director of the Volunteers Corpus, Mentor Kikia, valued the fact that the army also was involved in cleaning the territory, saying that this is not the solution that should end the pollution. Kikia says that only the implementation of laws and punishing of people who pollute can stop this phenomenon.

“We are cleaning the Zvernec beach for the fifth consequent year, but each year we find it even more polluted. We need a stronger law on businesses and citizens who dump waste materials, but also on the local government that hasn’t placed bins in this area”, Kikia declared.

One of the volunteers says that the law implementation might bring concrete results, by minimizing the environment pollution.

“There is a terrible and extreme pollution here. We have cleaned it several times within one year, and each time we found more wastes. We not that the problem is not with the citizens, now that the infrastructure is better, but with the businesses who dump their wastes in the park. This is a giant pollution that ruins the tourist environment, the natural habitat and that damages the people who frequent this area. We appeal the local government to place bins so that businesses can be obliged to use them”, declared Thimo Ribaj, a teacher and member of the Volunteer Corpus.

Zvernec is one of the most frequented beaches in our country, but there is still no infrastructure that can reduce the pollution.
