Vlore, judge executed with car bomb

Skerdilajd Konomi, judge of the Vlore Court of First Degree was killed
today after an explosive blew up in his car, while he was driving
through the city center.

The 33-year-old judge was married, father of two children, 4 and 1 year old. He was going to work with his vehicle and the explosion took place while he was driving, without any other vehicles near him at that moment. The explosion has shocked the passerby citizens who saw the car still moving after the explosion. Some of them rushed to open the destroyed doors.

The explosion had caused his legs to get stuck in the iron parts of the car, and the citizens were unable to remove the body from the vehicle, which took fire right after.

Only after the firefighters put out the flames, the police and citizens removed the body of the judge, who was still alive. The police transported him to hospital before waiting for the ambulance. The judge lost his life right after arriving at the hospital, due to the heavy wounds and serious burns.

This is the second car explosion in the city of Vlore, in a short period of time, causing terror. A few months before, Renato Abazi was executed with the same style in the city center.

Judges: Attack against judicial system

The Albanian Union of Judges declared that the method, the time and the
place where this attack was executed has planted a climate of terror and
aims not only to terrorize and intimidate the justice system, but also
to terrorize of the entire Albanian law enforcement agencies and law and
order.

The Union condemned the terrorist act and appealed competent
institutions to increase their performance for protecting and securing
the life of the judges, their families and their working conditions.

Police is investigating the serious crime that shocked not only the city of Vlore, but the entire Albanian public opinion.

President: Attempt against judicial system

The Albanian President, Bamir Topi condemned the criminal act that took
place today at Vlore against the judge Skerdilajd Konomi.

In the reaction published on the web page of the Presidency, the Head of
the Albanian State called this mafia-style attack that took the life of
a judge, as an attempt against the Judicial System, the rule of law and
democracy.

“The attack against judge Konomi is a threat for the society and state
institutions”, says the reaction of the President, who asked the
responsible authorities that are investigating the crime to act with
determination for discovering the authors and giving them the deserved
punishment.

Spahiu: Attempt against the Judicial System

The Vice Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Kreshnik Spahiu
condemned the execution of Judge Skerdilajd Konomi in the city of Vlore.

During a press release, Spahiu declared that these terrorist executions
should not take place in any country where there is law and order.

“This act is the continuance of several events and attempts against the
judicial system in the last years, marking an unprecedented case since
the times of Ismail Qemali”, Spahiu declared.

The second person in charge of the High Council of Justice asked this
event to be treated with priority and bring the authors to justice,
because this is an act against the justice structures.

“Albania aims to go towards EU and not Sicily of 50 years ago, where the
justice kneeled in front of the mafia and organized crime”, Spahiu
declared.

Berisha: An ugly crime

Prime Minister Berisha condemned the murder of the Judge Skerdilajd Konomi in Vlore, considering it as a very ugly crime.

By expressing the condolences and solidarity of the Albanian government
to the family of Judge Konomi and the local judge Panel, Berisha asked
the competent institutions to find the authors and bring them to
justice.

Topalli: Attack against the state

The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli declared that the tragedy that
took place today in Vlore is an attack against the Albanian state.

By asking the justice institutions to find the authors of this attempt,
Topalli declared that the attack against those who serve to the state is
an attack against the society.

The Parliament Speaker expressed her condolences to the family of Judge Konomi.
