An agreement signed between the Albanian government and the EBRD is
expected to give an end to the chaos that is caused every summer season
by the lack of a bypass in the exit of Vlore.
The agreement foresees a 18 million EUR fund through a panoramic road that deviates the traffic from the city to the coastline.
The agreement with the EBRD is part of a co-funding project, together with the EU and EBRD, through the IPA funds, which mounts to a total value of 53 million EUR.
“The project for the construction of the Vlore bypass is among the priorities of this government, based on the National Strategy for Development and Integration. Its objective its to increase the speed of movement, to free the traffic, to increase the commodity and safety on the road, and to improve the environment situation in Vlore. The realization of this project is very important for the development of southern Albania, for the industrial development, for tourism, agriculture and transportation of agricultural products”, declared the Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani.
The Vice President of the EBRD, Dario Scannapieco, valued the cooperation with the Albanian government.
“This is an agreement that will contribute for the development of the road infrastructure. It will liberate the city of Vlore from heavy traffic, especially in summer. We are happy to increase the cooperation with the European Bank of Investments and the Albanian government, since we believe that it is essential to keep supporting Albania’s economic growth, so that its role can be recognized even further, not only in the coasts of the Adriatic and Ionnian Seas, but also in the entire region, so that your country can be the epicenter of these projects that will take place in the region”, Scannapieco declared.
