The National Council of Integration met today at the Parliament of Albania, in presence of the EU Ambassador, Romana Vlahutin.

She underlined that the opening of the accession negotiations for Albania will not be approved by the EU as a gift, but as an instrument to progress even further.

“Last week, Mogherini underlined that Albania has a real possibility to progress towards opening the negotiations. Albania has a real possibility, after making an extraordinary job with the judiciary reform. The upcoming months will be intensive for Albania. The moment the council decides that the talks will continue, the role of the Parliament will be even more important. The negotiations are not a gift, but an instrument”, Vlahutin underlined.

She noted that the strategy for the integration of Western Balkan in the EU reconfirms the EU support for taking this path together.

Underlining the rule of law as the main priority of the countries in the region, Vlahutin noted a series of other priorities, the most important of which is the rule of law.

The EU Ambassador also announced that the cooperation agenda will be the keyword of the summit that will be held in Sophie.
