Vjosa River turns into the National Park, minsiter: The entire water and coastal surface of the river is protected by law

Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, announced today the decision declaring the Vjosa river a National Park, which is the second highest category of protection.

“Today we have the final decision that declares the Vjosa River a National Park, the last wild river in Europe, the second category of protection, which is much higher than what it had until a year ago as a ‘natural park’. We have extended this protection area to 12,727 hectares, which is the entire water surface, the coastal surface of the river, along with some other surfaces including its three branches; The Drino River, the Bença River and the Shushica River”, said Minister Kumbaro.

She also mentioned the work done in cooperation with the company “Patagonia” to continue with the next phase that has to do with the management plan and the drafting of the master plan of the area.

“The second phase will continue with the drafting of the management plan and the entire master plan of the area, since it is a very large territory in the territory of Albania to see where areas with traditional economy, eco-tourism, where there will be no interventions”, she added.
