Vjosa becomes more dangerous, Panariti to residents: “Leave”

Bad weather has raised alarms for floods in Southern Albania. Vjosa
River level increased to the limit and the risk for floods are evident,
according to the Mayor of Fier, Armando Subashi.

The Vjosa residents also received a warning by the Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti, who appealed them to leave their homes.

The Civilian Emergency Headquarters say the most endangered areas are Memaliaj, Frakull, Kafaraj, Cervene, Fier, Pishporo, Novosela, Fitore and Selenica in Vlore.

Shkoder has had more flooded land, at around 900 hectares. The Albanian Power Corporation has started discharging from the Vau i Dejes hydropower plant with 1200 cubic meters of water per second.

The Mat River embankment in Lezha is also in danger. In Kamza, 110 families affected by the floods have evacuated their residences, and also 40 others in Paskuqan.
