The Albanian Democratic Party has proposed today three urgent measures that it says the government should take, in order to protect the healthcare personnel and citizens from the coronavirus epidemic.

“After the doctors and nurses of the Hospital of Durres and Berat, today the media reports that doctors and nurses in Fier Hospital have been quarantined because they served the people affected by coronavirus without the necessary protective equipment.

“It’s been 1 week since the first case of coronavirus was confirmed, but the government has not taken any action on the main demand, that of equipping with the necessary protective material all health care personnel in the country”, the DP statement reads”.

Further on is added:

“Albania has a limited healthcare personnel and we do not have the luxury to quarantine them. If this happens massively, the protective wall between the citizens and the dangerous virus will fall. It is not too late for the government to put an end to their irresponsibility with which it has so far dealt with the healthcare system. To protect it from collapse, it is urgent to equip medical staff with protective equipment.
Time no longer waits! the prime minister and his government must take the measures
mandatory by law: 1. Protection of medical personnel with special equipment and tools.
2. Rapid disinfection at national level for roads, public areas and non-public buildings.
3. Adopt without delay the socio-economic package for crisis avoidance. ”
