A detailed inspection made by the Tax Office to 300 biggest corporates
in Albania, has revealed scheme used by businesses to avoid taxes. There
are several methods, including ghost transactions.
“Large businesses have made transactions with passive businesses that do not operate anymore or that have been unregistered”, says Irena Beqiraj, Deputy Minister of Finances.
But the ghost transactions are not the only way. There are inconsistencies between with the transaction even within the companies.
Transactions between large and small businesses have also shown inconsistencies. According to Beqiraj, larger businesses declare sales to small businesses, but the latter don’t appear in the declared annual turnover.
“This shows that either large businesses are using smaller ones to hide taxes, or the smaller ones are not declaring sales in 2015”, Beqiraj added.
The Deputy Minister of Finances says that all large businesses that have used these methods will undergo a tax revaluation.
