Violent environment in schools

Fights, wounding and ever murders among teens in schools and outside are
putting in doubt the trust and safety that families, schools and
society transmit.

The recent case could have been avoided, according to psychologists, if families or teachers would have been more attentive to teenagers who show criminal signs.

“A teacher, a psychologist should have understood the criminal behavior on this person. Things never change overnight. There is a childhood history, a family presence. It is very important for teens to have a father figure”, declared Psychologist Elida Cagonji.

The lack of one parent has a key role in their growth. They transmit safety and identity to their children. But many teens in Tirana are showing depression signs and at least 5% of them admit to have suicidal thoughts.

“Teen complained for stress from schools, tests, and other problematic. The alternative to this are sport, art, culture, which needs for more investments on teens”, Cagonji declared.

The recent report for Albania’s population development center shows that 46% of women say that they feel heavy or average pressure. 70% of students become distracted, have sleep problems and stomach pains. Schools and tests are often the main reason of stress in students. According to a study, more the one in three students have had signs of depression one week before study. The same report shows that students who are not born in Tirana, who do not get involved in sportive activities and who come from families with problems or low incomes have a higher risk to enter depression.
