There are dozens of cases of students who have been injured by cold
weapons, or who have been physically and emotionally conflicted in
schools. This has raised questions about the safety in schools and about
what is changing with the Albanian families.
A poll made by the Center for Intermediation shows that 47% of the students declare that they don’t feel safe in their schools, and at least 28% of them have been involved in conflicts.
“47% think that they are not safe inside schools. To change this situation, we are working with a reintegration program, a restoring dialogue and resolving conflicts through communication and intermediation. One of the messages that we gave today, was reviewing the program in all school, because in the school where we have been working, the conflicts have been decreasing rather than increasing”, declared Rasim Gjoka, specialist at the Intermediation Area.
The UNICEF representative, Detlef Palm, underlined that children raised in violent family environments transmit it even in schools. Teachers should be careful to identify them and increase cooperation with them.
“Conflicts always exist and the reasons may be several. It may be for a girlfriend, for pocket money or other things. If you feel humiliated and isolated, conflicts take other proportions. Violence is resolved at its source. When parents don’t speak, when children are beaten in their families, or mothers beaten by their fathers, what should we expect from them? Teachers need to be vigilant”, Palm declared.
The Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla, declared that besides the measures in schools, such as placing cameras or even a more frequent police patrol, it is necessary for teachers to cooperate with families and raise awareness among them.
“Teachers should take care of the children that have been left aside, those who come from problematic families, and those who feel victimized. This should be the focus of work for every teacher, in every school, Ministry and society”, Nikolla declared.
Crisis in families and increased number of divorces is causing an increase of violent children.
