An Albanian citizen identified as 53 years old Arjan Rizaj, was executed in an assassination ambush in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Local media reports that the Albanian was executed last night while inside his car, which was parked in front of the “Luis Vernaza” hospital.
The perpetrators were on motorcycles and after the shooting they quickly left in an unknown direction. According to the local informations they used a 9 mm caliber firearm.
It is reported that the 53-year-old man was rushed to the hospital near the location, but died of his injuries.

In the testimony given to the authorities, the victim’s wife stated that the he was not working in Ecuador as he was without documents and was provided income from relatives in Albania and Canada.
The motives of the assassination are still unknown, but the murder takes place on the same day when the much-wanted Dritan Rexhepi was arrested in Turkey for drug trafficking, and when a number of criminal events involving Albanian citizens were registered this year in Latin America countries, mainly related to drug trafficking.
