“Vetting Law” looks for collaborators: “Whoever brings evidence of bribes, will take bribe money back”
For years, Albanian citizens have complained in polls about the high level of corruption in the prosecution and judiciary but never has anyone reported them so far.
The Press Office of the Independent Commission for Qualification announces that citizens have handed over 364 complaints so far, but none of them has evidence of how the bribe was paid in exchange of a favourable court verdict.
All 364 complaints demand a review of the court verdict, that’s why the Commission has reacted:
“Based on the high number of complaints, the Commission wants to notify the public that our mission is not to review the court verdict, but to collect concrete data regarding corruptive actions and legal violations”, the announcement says.
Article 53 of the Vetting Law says that the public is allowed to be part of reporting facts, and the reaction of the public has been beyond predictions. Sources say that since there have been no interesting evidence on the cases handed over by citizens, the Independent Commission of Qualification has asked the Prosecution for information.
The Commission has asked the Prosecution if there are citizens who are ready to cooperate, but the answer of the Prosecution was negative, according to sources.
Article 54 of the Vetting Law allows citizens who have paid bribes to give information and receive the status of the person who is protected by the state. Their evidence will then pass to the Vetting Institutions. The citizen will not be taken into investigation and he will have the bribe money back.
Asking the public’s contribution, the Independent Commission for Qualification appeals citizens with evidence, photographs, documents or other data, to share them with the Independent Commission of Qualification and contribute to this vital process for the country.
