Vetting law, Calavera: “International Monitoring Board has no decision-making powers”

The head of the International Monitoring Operation for the Vetting
Process, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera, explained once again the competences of
the international partners in the process, clarifying in two points the
tasks of the IMO.

“Let me explain that the task of the IMO is completely coordinative, to make it easier for the EU and the USA representatives that are being led by me”, Calavera said.

Secondly, she said that the IMO is not included in the monitoring process.

“All recommendations regarding the selection of candidates who will be part of the new Vetting institutions, and who will carry out this process in the future, will be done by the international observers who were appointed or who will be appointed later. I want to underline once again that the IMO has no decision-making powers. This competence belongs only to Albanian institutions”, she says.

This letter comes after the Justice Minister, Petrit Vasili, wrote two letters in which he raised concerns that the IMO was against the Albanian Constitution.
