Estonia is to take EU presidency in July and one of its priorities is enlargement. Foreign Affairs vice Minister, Matti Masikas confirmed Albania has a possibility to start negotiation talks during his visit to the country.
“We will not deliver any progress reports until 2018, but there is a case and a country that the commission would discuss again and this is Albania”, Masikas said, adding that this opportunity depends on Albania itself.
“Standards would be taken in consideration and one of them is the most essential, the vetting process for members of the judiciary system. The European Commission is ready to discuss again the matter of negotiation talks’ start with Albania this year fi standards are fulfilled. Vetting is an essential part”, he added.
Mr Maasikas also talked about Russia influence in the Western Balkans saying there have been increased attempts from their part to interfere in the region. He also reassured the European Union does not risks dissolution after Brexit.
