Very important segment of Tirana’s Big Ring Road opened today

The Tirana Municipality opened today a new segment of the Tirana Outer
Ring Road, easing traffic load for several important urban centers of
Albania’s capital, and creating a faster bypass corridor for vehicles
which had to drive through Tirana as they transited from Durres to
Elbasan and vice versa.

The construction works were completed in a record time, and Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj kept his promise to open them before the academic year 2017-2018, which starts this Monday on September 11th, known for creating a heavier traffic each year.

Veliaj appealed citizens to use this new segment, which reduces vehicle circulation in Tirana’s center.

“I am very happy that we ended this agony that took so many years. I want to appeal drivers going from Durres to Elbasan, Librazhd, Pogradec of Korca to avoid going across Tirana’s center, but use this segment instead which takes them directly to the Tirana-Elbasan highway”, Veliaj said, adding that the road will improve the life of thousands of residents in the urban areas around it.

Mayor Veliaj said that this is another kept promise by the central government and Tirana Municipality.

“We were here with Prime Minister Rama and Pandeli Majko during the campaign, promising that it would be opened before the new academic year. And we kept our word”, Veliaj said, thanking central authorities for completing the project.

Veliaj declared that the delays were due to endless bureaucracies with expropriation and trials, which will be resolved by the new government.

The Mayor reminded citizens to respect the new measures established to ease traffic for school.

“I invite citizens to respect the new circulation time tables. Starting from Monday, when all children go to school, vans that distribute products through shops will not be allowed to operate until 09:00, so that children are not stuck in traffic”, Veliaj said.

MP Pandeli Majko said the opening of this segment is an important day: “This is the second most important artery of Tirana. I am looking forward to see the first vehicles that will go through this way, which will make traffic easier in many other roads”, Majko said.
