Vergine Oil Scandal in court

The trial request for the Vergine Oil scandal was sent this Tuesday at
the Tirana Court, a few days after Top Channel reported that one year
long investigations were finally over.

This request of the Prosecution charges 16 persons – Hajri Elezaj among them and the “Euroil JSC” – over hiding evidence, embezzlement and falsification.

The Prosecution says the defendants can be found guilty by the register that was taken at “Armo”, seized by the Customs General Directory for the Vergine Oil experts in 2007-2009, and also by other documents and declarations used on behalf of “Euroil”.

According to Prosecutor Daniela Sulaj, the 16 defendants can also be found guilty through the declaration released by the former Minister, Dritan Prifti, the first who reported this scandal.

According to the request, the seized documentation doesn’t show the truth about the destination of 17.000 tons of Vergine Oil.

The Prosecution says that this considerable amount has not been loaded on the ship, and the ship traveled to Greece empty. On February 2009, the Euroil Company has registered the load as export goods to Libya, but the destinations were not recorded at the Durres port.

“Customs statement says that the export was realized with the ‘Rita’ ship, with a 800.000 USD load. While the export reported as exported through the ‘Calitea’ ship has a value of 443 million ALL.”
