Verdict for territorial division expected this Monday. DP: “We will block elections”

This weekend is decisive for the future of local elections. It will be
decided if they will be held according to the new territorial division,
or the new law of the government will be repealed, as the Democratic
Party requests, and the number of local units will not change.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, met with experts of his party who say that the new territorial division gives the Socialist coalition 61 municipalities.

Sources from the Democratic Party confirmed for Top Channel that based on these calculations, the opposition will not accept what they call “taking the local power on the table”, by making the territorial division based on the political interest of Edi Rama and Ilir Meta.

Same sources confirm that by considering the approval of the territorial division without consensus as “elimination of the democratic co-existence”, the opposition is determined to not recognize it and they will use all instruments to not allow the new elections to be held with the new map.

Does this mean that there will be no participation in the elections? Sources from the Democratic Party do not confirm any discussion about boycott, but they confirm that they have discussed all instruments for blocking the local elections, which should be held in June.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, who has started a new national tour for meeting with the citizens, considered the new territorial division as an unilateral act that provokes civilian and political conflicts. According to Basha, this can be avoided only by returning consensus and dialogue between parties.

The last chance for doing this, according to the DP, is the Constitutional Court verdict.
