Velipoja, tourism without power

05/07/2013 00:00

The Velipoja beach is the longest of our coastline, with 12 kilometers
that end up in the border with Montenegro in north, and with the
Shengjin beach in South, receiving a large number of tourists each year.

But tourism this year is facing difficulties with CEZ deciding to change the power line right in the peak of the tourist season, making frequent interruptions. For the hotel owners, this situation puts their business in serious danger.

The Head of the Velipoja commune, Pashk Ujka, says that the Velipoja beach has had a series of changes through investments, but this might go in vain, since there is no sufficient electricity.

The green spaces and the new roads to the beach, the clean water and sand, the promenades and entertainment premises have turned Velipoja into one of the preferred areas for holiday makers especially from northern Albania and Kosovo.
