The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the “Pyramid” will be the biggest centre of technology in the region.

Veliaj made this declaration at the during the 9th edition of the “Work and Study” fair, which has 60 attending companies, universities and institutions, offering more than 3000 jobs.

“9 out of 10 students who come for education in Tirana, will remain in this city even after. Tirana needs 6000-7000 apartments. The industry of people that are being added up to the city each year, a total of 27,000-30,000 people, generates employment. I understand that each of us would have loved a beautiful garden in front of the house, but this is not possible in a big city. This is why many chose to live in Tirana because they want to be there where everyone else is. But we must understand that this industry has employed 10,000 people”, Veliaj said.

The Mayor declared that employment based on political ties is over for the municipality and that everything is now based on merit.

“I can guarantee that the time when parties were the main employment agency is now over, at least for the Tirana Municipality. This means that more public institutions are turning into headhunters to take people from the private sector. Of course, motivation has its part. Public administration pay is not that high, but people don’t work only for money. They also work for a sense of mission. This is why if you are students today, I know that chances are this will be your new home, regardless of where you come from”, the Mayor declared.
