Veliaj: “Employment program for female convicts”

There are 56 convicts and 40 detainees at this institution.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that besides the many businesses that joined the Municipality for planting new trees, a special contribution came from the women and girls who serve their sentences to this institution.

He added that despite the difficult moments in life, it is important to overcome them and look forward.

“Many institutions joined our operation, but this is the most special one. I believe that we all have a moment when we are down. The matter is how we get back on our feet, how we transform, how we use difficult moments in life to become stronger and keep walking ahead”, Veliaj added.

“We are close to reaching the record of planting 100,000 trees not only in public areas, but also inside these institutions. I am glad that this institution will turn into a small green island, within an overpopulated neighborhood, giving ladies more hope and more courage as they continue with this difficult moment of their lives”, the Mayor said.

This will not be the only project that the Municipality of Tirana has planned to support the incarcerated population. Veliaj said new projects will make it easier for them to get integrated into the society and create employment possibilities for them.
