The Rapporteur for Macedonia at the European Parliament, Ivo Vajgl,
appealed the Balkan region for unity and to show themselves as a trusted
partner of the EU.
The comment came a few days after the incident between Belgrade and Skopje, with Serbia removing its embassies from Macedonia.
Vajgl says that many member countries can see the hesitation regarding the enlargement of the EU and its consolidation after Brexit, including the financial crisis and refugee crisis.
“The least productive thing that member state can do is escalate tensions and go back to traditional intolerance, on historic and pseudo-historic bases”, he declared referring to the situation between Serbia and Macedonia.
If the region wants to keep the enlargement perspective unchanged, it should represent itself as a homogenous and attractive market.
