The Spokesperson of the US State Department, Jennifer Psaki, declared
that the United States of America thank Albania for the humanitarian
operation in sheltering dozens of people from the Hurriya camp in Iraq.
The Spokesperson declared that so far, 71 people have been sent to Albania as part of this agreement, and the United States of America are waiting for the others to be regulated as soon as possible. On 19 and 21 June, two groups of the Hurriya camp, 27 in total, were regulated in Albania permanently.
This step was undertaken as an answer of the generous offer made by the Albanian government to accept 210 people from this camp. The United States of America support the work of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the work of the UN Aid Mission in Iraq and the restless efforts of Mr.Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the UN General Secretariat, for regulating outside Iraq the remaining people of the camp. The US State Departmentappealed the leaders of the Mijahedin-e-Khalk group and all responsible parties to guarantee full cooperation with the regulation process.
The regulation of the Hurriya Camp residents outside Iraq is a humanitarian and vital mission for their lives. This is an urgent matter, due to the constant threats that are present in this camp”, says the declaration.
