US State Secretary congratulates Rama for elections

In a phone call that lasted 20 minutes, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi
Rama, received best wishes from the US State Secretary, Rex Tillerson,
for winning the recent central elections.
Tillerson said that the new term that the Socialist Party won for ruling the country on its own, without coalitions, obliges this political force to accelerate reforms, cleanse the public administration from corrupted people and mark significant results in the fight against crime.
The US Chief Diplomat expressed the US support for the new government term and transmitted best positive impressions from US Vice President Mike Pence, after the meeting in Montenegro, where the USA reconfirmed its focus on the Balkan region and its developments.
Rama thanked the US State Secretary for the phone call and made a clear presentation of the regional situation, as seen from Albania, focusing on the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and the need to unblock the stalemate with Macedonia’s name.
Rama also asked for more cooperation with the USA in the energy sector, especially oil and gas, which was welcomed by Secretary Tillerson.
