The US State Department reacted after the European Council decided to not open the EU accession negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia.
The US State Department expressed their disappointment that the European Council didn’t recognize the efforts for reforms in each country.
A positive reaction, the press release says, would have reaffirmed the credibility of their path towards the EU and would have opposed malicious foreign actors who want to determine the western values and the Euro-Atlantic community.
“We appreciate the fact that the European Council didn’t put new conditions to Albania and Northern Macedonia. We hope that there will be consensus next May”, says the press release.
