The US State Department has full confidence on the US Embassy and Ambassador Donald Lu in Albania.
This is an exclusive declaration for Top Channel, answer to a question we addressed to the US State Department, after Huffington Post published an article in which Luke Cofey, Director of Foreign Policies at the Heritage Foundation, was criticizing the role of the USA in Balkan and especially in Albania.
In its answer, the US State Department supports the work of the Embassy, and said that everyone has asked the US to be involved in the process.
“U.S Policy in Albania is to support the country’s EU accession and the reforms necessary to advance that goal. This includes support for the judicial reform, fighting corruption and organized crime, and countering violent extremism.
Ambassador Lu and his team have worked in partnership for more than a year with leaders from the Government, the Parliament, the Opposition, civil society and the international community to pass and implement a meaningful reform of the judiciary. Both the government and the opposition asked for U.S involvement in the process, including monitoring the implementation of the reform.
The United State will continue to speak out in favor of the rule of law and the judicial reform, and against attempts to manipulate its implementation.
