The United States Embassy in Tirana has rected this Thursday against a
declaration made in Parliament by the former Prime Minister, Sali
Berisha, against a United States Embassy employee.
“We are scandalized by the unfounded claim against a United States Embassy employee by Mr.Sali Berisha, Parliament Member, during a parliamentary session”, the press release says, explaining:
“Mr.Berisha claims that an Albanian employee of the embassy has tried to intervene in an undergoing investigation, simply due to the relation he had with a member of the Council of Ministers. The claim is completely untrue and unfounded”, the announcement says.
The United States Embassy says that they insist for having the highest integrity and accountability for each member of their mission.
“The United States Embassy appeals Mr.Berisha to reflect on his behavior”, the announcement says.
Berisha declared in today’s Parliament session that an employee of the United States mission OPDAT, sister of an Albanian minister, has influenced in the investigation of a former Armed Forces officer.
“She sent her sister as a black crow from OPDAT, making huge pressure to Prosecutors. To not one, but two prosecutors. But the two prosecutors refused. Then she made the most horrible pressure for Syrija Gjoka”, Berisha declared.
