Rustem Kazazi emigrated to the USA in 2005, with the hope to return home one day, sell his old house and buy a seaside villa.
They worked hard in the USA and set money aside. They worked three jobs, didn’t pay even TV cables so that they could save that money.
Last year, when Rustemi was preparing to visit Albania, he was carrying his savings with him, around 58,000 USD.
The Customs authorities seized them since the US law has it that no one should carry more than 10,000 in cash when travelling.
After long efforts, the US government is now returning him most of the money, but for the Kazazi family, something has been broken.
“It was shocking. We didn’t do anything wrong. Nothing is like it used to be”, said Erald Kazazi, Rustem’s son.
