US concern for CEC

With a very diplomatic but clear language, Jonathan Moore, Director of
the US State Department for Central and Southern Europe, did not hide
the concern of the US for the development of the Albanian Parliament
this Monday.

“We discussed what happened this Monday at the Albanian parliament. We noticed some concerns regarding the changed balances of CEC. We believe that there is a strong legal argument that puts into question the way how the Parliament voted. However, we wish that the Central Election Commission will function. If it doesn’t, the June 23rd elections cannot be held. We will see how the process will continue. We are concerned for the high level of political tension that we saw while the elections are starting once again with questions, accusations and legitimacy issues”, Moore declared.

Mr.Moore spoke about the protest organized in front of the house of Kastriot Islami.

“One of the people I met today was Kastriot Islami. Democratic principle demand that not only people make their choice, and we are concerned and disappointed that there has been a direct pressure in front of the house of a Parliament Member, using pressure not only against him, but also his family”, Moore declared.

Moore held a meeting with Prime Minister Berisha before speaking for the journalists.
