US and EU embassies react: “Supporting decriminalization”

“We welcome the decision of the Socialist Party for expelling Tom Doshi, allegedly involved with criminal activities. The US take very seriously the threat of crime and corruption in free and democratic societies. We encourage all parties in Albania to remove the individuals involved in criminal and corruptive activities”, the reaction says.

The Embassy underlines that they support the Parliament for drafting a resolution in accordance with Resolution 24 of past December, signed in Tirana.

“We appeal the Prosecutor General of Albania to investigate and prosecute criminals and corrupted officials of all levels”, the reaction says.

A declaration from the EU mission in Tirana didn’t delay. They say with diplomatic tones that “the EU supports the steps that are needed for a full implementation of an agreement between the opposition and majority, including the issue of people with criminal records who keep public posts”.

The declaration says that the EU gives the highest importance to the law implementation, including the fight against corruption and organized crime, which are key priorities for Albania.
