In an introductory event at the Rogner hotel in Tirana, the new US ambassador Yuri Kim has appealed on Thursday evening to the local politicians to step up the fight against corruption and find the will to compromise between the parties.
The new Washington representative demanded the leaders demonstrate true leadership by making difficult decisions.
“Albania must eradicate corruption, prosecute organized crime, and firmly implement the rule of law. The adoption of justice reform was a major milestone, but much will depend on its full and proper implementation”, Kim said.
Further on she stated: ” I call on Albanian leaders, whether in the majority or in the opposition, in parliament or outside it – to demonstrate genuine leadership by making difficult decisions in order to move the country forward on its European path. This will require compromises, but a temporary sacrifice of personal pride is definitely worth for the sake of the country’s future”.
The ambassador congratulated the opposition parties outside the Parliament, for finding a way to move forward with electoral reform.
“I congratulate the parties inside the parliament that sat on the dialogue table and I hope there will be more examples of this level of cooperation throughout the year“, stated ambassador Kim, among other things.
