After meeting with several politicians, the US Ambassador to Tirana,
Donald Lu, said that the verification made on the visa held by the
Prosecutor General’s was the only initiative undertaken from Tirana, a
decision coming from the consulate, not from the Ambassador.

Credible sources confirmed for Top Channel that US Ambassador Lu said that after verifying Llalla, the representatives in Tirana were asked from Washington to verify other judges and prosecutors as well.

“This was an order and I didn’t have the option to chose if I wanted to implement it or not. Some people had their visas revoked due to reasonable doubts that they could leave Albania together with the wealth made through corruption, and the USA cannot accept this”.

The implementation of the Justice Reform remains the main priority of the USA. Ambassador Lu mentioned one of the most delicate points of the vetting law, which was challenged by the opposition even at the Constitutional Court, the government control of two key directories which provide information about the vetting institutions: the Image Verification Directory and the Money Laundering Directory.

As learned by Top Channel, the US Ambassador said that he shared this concern of the Democratic Party with Prime Minister Rama as well, in order to make the process more trusted.

The stance of Prime Minister Rama is still unclear, but Top Channel confirmed that the US Ambassador has discussed it with the Rama, who has promised to find a solution.
