US Ambassador: Judiciary reform, the most important step

The US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, made a careful comparison of the politics in Pakistan and Albania.

Lu told the story of a friend of his, a judge in Pakistan, who faced the drug cartels that intervened with politics to influence the release of drug bosses.

As for the judiciary reform, Lu said:

“Pakistan is different from Albania, but some of the challenges remain the same. In both countries we are concerned about corrupted judges, politicians involved in crimes and a system in which the richest buy justice. The fight for the judiciary reform has just started. People with integrity from both political sides are trusted in this fight. Judges, Prosecutors, incapable politicians will answer to this reform, but we must not let them win. This reform is the only must important one since the fall of communism”, declared the US Ambassador, Donald Lu.

The former President, Alfred Mojsiu, co-founder of the “Civil Forum”, said that a special law is needed to scan the wealth of the Albanian Judges and Prosecutors, implementing this way the probation principle even for their relatives.

Another suggestion of President Mojsiu was related to the election of the President by the people.

“No matter how many competences are changed, political parties will always try to have a President of its own. This can be resolved only by having persons elected by the people. I don’t know why they hesitate for such a solution, when the entire East elects the President through the people”, Mojsiu declared.

The German Ambassador, Helmut Hoffman, declared that if the judiciary reform is not done now, Albania will lose 10 years of precious time.
