US Ambassador for Top Channel: “Celebrate for EU accession, but also work harder before June”

The US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, commented the decision of the European Commission for opening the accession negotiations between Albania and the EU.
The Ambassador responded to Top Channel’s question about this step: “Congratulations to the Albanian people for this important step in the accession process. It is time for celebrations, but also for harder work”.
Donald Lu said that he is not the ambassador of an EU country, but before the Council decides in June, Tirana needs to give concrete results.
“I am not the ambassador of an EU country, but I hope Albania will listen to the member countries who demanded concrete results against corruption, against organized crime and for the judiciary reform, before the decision is taken in June. Albania has another chance to progress with this important matter”, the ambassador said.
