The US Ambassador to Tirana was once again direct with the critics
against the judiciary. In a meeting with the Special Commission for this
reform, Donald Lu said the USA support the Constitutional changes
proposed by the panel of experts.
“I guarantee you that the USA supports the current propositions for constitutional amends. We have been part of the discussions between experts for each of these changes. This is a radical reform that for the first time will take concrete steps to remove corrupted judges and prosecutors from the Justice System”, Lu declared.
The ambassador was once again direct to the court when he said that corrupted and incompetent judges are filling their pockets with the money of the Albanian people. He asked the political class to end the conflict language and work together for this reform.
“There should be open and sincere dialogue if these propositions are the right reforms for managing the serious problems of this country. The party should be committed to end the political attacks. I encourage everyone to hear the discussions and advises for this reform”, Lu added.
As for the concerns raised by the members of the judiciary, that the reform could damage the independence of this power, Donald Lu had a very original answer:
“No Albanian believes that the current justice system is independent from bribes, phone calls from people with power, and pressure from the organized crime. This reform will give the real chance to make the justice system independent for the first time”, Donald Lu concluded.
