US ambassador at the DP, Basha: “Law needs consensus”

After the government presented a parallel draft-law for the decriminalization law, putting in question the special commission for the same issue, has made the US Ambassador, Donald Lu, start a series of meetings with the Albanian politicians.

Lu preferred to not communicate with the media, while the
opposition leader expressed his determination to go to the end of the
decriminalization of politics and the administration.

“We have
the full support of our international partners, who I want to thank for
the vital cause they have given to the Albanian people. We are
determined to follow all steps to resolve this”, Basha declared.

With
“all steps”, Basha focuses on a political solution through consensus in
the decriminalization commission, although the Socialist vice chairman
of the commission is repeating there are no chances for consensus.

“Our
focus remains on the institutional solution within the December 24th
agreement, so that we can find common grounds for making
decriminalization an effective law and not a cosmetic one”, Basha
declared.

The US Ambassador declared this Wednesday that a US
Prosecutor has arrived in Tirana to assist the Prosecution of Serious
Crimes.

This Prosecutor accompanied the ambassador during the
meeting with the opposition leader, and he will apparently give
assistance even for the decriminalization issue.

The parties so
far are divided about at least two propositions of the DP, the drug test
and the fingerprints tests, which, according to Basha, make the
decriminalization law completely effective.
