US Ambassador at CEC: “You also affect cleaning of politics”

One day after Ilir Pjetraj, the Democratic Party candidate was removed
from the running list in Kurbin, the US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu,
arrived this Tuesday at the Central Election Commission where he met
with the seven members of this institution.
The Central Election Commission official announcement says only that the US diplomat was updated with the current progress of the electoral process and the decisions of the highest electoral institution, but it seems that the purpose of the meeting was something else.
Sources from within the meeting say that the US Ambassador has applauded the decision for unregistering Altin Biba in Kurbin. The diplomat has encouraged the electoral body to answer to the decriminalization challenge of the Albanian politics.
The US Ambassador declared in Albanian that it is up to CEC o clean politics from criminality.
Donald Lu has encouraged the highest electoral body to unregister any candidate with a criminal past, when it comes as a request of the political parties.
However, the CEC candidates have explained how it is impossible to continue with the request of the DP in Kelcyra.
The request was sent at the CEC for unregistering their own political subject, however, without giving the explanatory reasons for this decision.
The US Ambassador has expressed his trust that there will be a legal reforom for accepting the request of the Democratic Party for withdrawing their candidate in Klcyra.
