Urban transportation on strike. Tirana paralyzed

The Urban Transportation has been paralyzed today, after bus drivers
conductors of the eight licensed operators, led by Union leaders, went
on strike for not being paid for two months.

“We want a new ticket price that should be established after negotiations with the Municipality of Tirana and transportation associations. This has not happened. Passengers have traveled with 30 ALL so far, but this cannot let us make collective agreements with owners”, declared Zija Hasani, from the Public Transportation Union.

But they do not hide the fact that with this protest they are defending the interest of their owners. They want subventions from the municipality for the categories that travel for free and for the others who travel for 30 ALL.

The protesters want to discuss in the Municipal Council, now that the government passed it to the local government.

The Tirana Municipality has proposed the Municipal Council to keep the current price and not change it. They say that they cannot charge the Albanian citizens with higher burdens in this difficult situation. As for the social subventions for the categories that receive free transportation, the reduction of VAT and removal of excise of oil for the urban transportation, the municipality says these belong to the government.
